Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the Recon Travels website or making any booking through us. By accessing our website or proceeding with a booking, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

1. Definitions

  • "Recon Travels", "we", "us", "our" refers to Recon Travels, a travel company operating from Nairobi, Kenya.
  • "Client", "you", "your" refers to any individual or entity making an enquiry or booking.
  • "Services" refers to all travel arrangements, itineraries, bookings, and related services we provide.
  • "Booking" refers to any confirmed reservation of services provided by or through Recon Travels.

2. Booking Process and Confirmation

2.1 Enquiry and Quotation

All bookings begin with an enquiry. We will prepare a bespoke itinerary and quotation based on your requirements. Quotations are valid for 14 days from the date of issue unless stated otherwise. Prices are subject to availability and may change before a booking is confirmed.

2.2 Confirmation

A booking is confirmed only upon receipt of the required deposit and written confirmation from Recon Travels. No booking is confirmed until you receive a written confirmation document from us.

2.3 Accuracy of Information

You are responsible for ensuring all personal details provided at the time of booking (names, passport numbers, dates of birth, dietary requirements, medical conditions relevant to travel) are accurate. We accept no liability for costs or issues arising from incorrect information provided by the client.

3. Pricing and Payment

3.1 Pricing

All prices are quoted in the currency specified in your itinerary. Prices include only what is expressly listed in your confirmation documents. International and domestic flights are excluded unless specifically stated.

3.2 Deposit

A non-refundable deposit of 30% of the total booking value is required to confirm your booking. The deposit amount will be specified in your quotation.

3.3 Final Payment

The remaining balance is due no later than 60 days before the departure date. For bookings made within 60 days of departure, the full amount is payable immediately upon booking confirmation.

3.4 Late Payment

If final payment is not received by the due date, Recon Travels reserves the right to cancel the booking and apply the applicable cancellation charges.

3.5 Price Variations

We reserve the right to adjust confirmed prices in the event of significant changes to currency exchange rates (above 5%), government-imposed taxes, or supplier surcharges beyond our control. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any such adjustment.

Please refer to our Refund Policy for full details on cancellation charges and procedures. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to bookings@recontravels.com.

5. Travel Documents and Requirements

5.1 Passports and Visas

It is your sole responsibility to ensure you hold a valid passport and any necessary visas for all destinations in your itinerary. Passports must typically be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. We provide general guidance but accept no liability for refusal of entry or denied boarding due to incorrect documentation.

5.2 Health Requirements

Some destinations require specific vaccinations (e.g., yellow fever certificate). You are responsible for consulting a travel health professional and complying with all health entry requirements. We recommend consulting your doctor at least six weeks before departure.

5.3 Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all Recon Travels bookings. Your insurance must cover: medical emergencies and evacuation, trip cancellation and curtailment, lost or stolen luggage, and personal liability. We reserve the right to request proof of insurance.

6. Our Responsibility

6.1 What We Are Responsible For

We are responsible for arranging travel services on your behalf and ensuring our suppliers meet the standards we represent. We will act with reasonable skill and care in the provision of all services.

6.2 Limitations of Liability

We act as agents for independent suppliers (airlines, lodges, ground operators). While we carefully select all partners, we cannot be held liable for the acts, omissions, or defaults of those suppliers. Our liability is limited to the total value of your booking in cases where we are found to be directly at fault.

6.3 Force Majeure

We accept no liability for failure to perform obligations due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, acts of government, civil unrest, pandemics, severe weather, or acts of terrorism.

7. Changes to Your Booking

7.1 Changes by You

Amendments to confirmed bookings must be requested in writing. Amendment fees may apply depending on timing and the nature of the change. Supplier change fees are passed on at cost.

7.2 Changes by Us

Occasionally, circumstances beyond our control may require us to make changes to your itinerary. We will notify you as soon as possible and offer suitable alternatives. If a significant change occurs before departure and you are not satisfied with the alternative, you may cancel and receive a full refund of amounts paid to us.

8. Behaviour and Conduct

We expect all clients to behave responsibly and with respect for local laws, customs, wildlife, and other travellers. We reserve the right to terminate arrangements for any client whose behaviour is causing distress, danger, or offence to others. In such cases, no refunds will be issued and we accept no responsibility for associated costs.

9. Complaints

If you experience any issues during your trip, please report them immediately to the relevant supplier and contact us directly so we have the opportunity to resolve the matter in real time. Complaints raised only after return are more difficult to address. Written complaints should be submitted within 28 days of your return date.

10. Intellectual Property

All content on our website — including text, images, logos, and itineraries — is the intellectual property of Recon Travels and may not be reproduced without written permission.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nairobi, Kenya, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection law in your home jurisdiction.
